Rationale
Lifting operations can often put people at great risk of injury, as well incurring great costs in case of accidents, It is important to properly resource, plan and organize lifting operations so that they are carried out in a safe matter, Rigging, Slinging and Signaling is part of lifting activities and the common risk is mechanical material handling and failure of signaling communication during preparation prior to the lifting. Therefore, the principal employer's role on site is to ensure approved lifting plans are executed and require his competent personnel to be aware of these requirements and enforce them accordingly.
Objectives
At the end of the program participants will be able to:
• Understand the statutory, company and specific clients'/projects' requirement pertaining to rigging & slinging activities;
• Identify and describe the common gears used and its functions to lift different types of loads;
• Understand the different types of cranes and other lifting appliances;
• Apply the different types of inspection techniques and removal criteria for gears;
• Perform load assessment focusing on load angle, safety factors and slinging method::
• Demonstrate standard hand signaling and use of other media communications for lifting;
• Understand the critical work completion procedure; and
• Demonstrate industry best safety practices by complying with the Do's & Don'ts.
